I posted this on Pennocks, but figure I'll post here too --
My cooling fan seems to be on when I don't think it should be. I'm resurrecting an '86 SE V6 and in the process of flushing the coolant I discovered it has a 160 deg thermostat. Fine - I think I'll replace it with a 195 as it should be... but why then is my radiator fan always on? My temp gauge sits at about the 160 degree spot, so I don't think the radiator fan should go on? I am not running AC.
My thought is the PO noticed the fan always on and then went to a 160 deg thermostat.. but I'm only guessing. I'm going to go to a 195 - but I assume I need to fix the fan - but I'm not sure if maybe it should always be on anyway. It's been a while since I worked on these things.
